RECA SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

RECA offers a scholarship program for graduating high school seniors as a service to the community. Scholarships are
funded by donations from RECA members and friends and fundraising events sponsored by RECA. The scholarship program recognizes students who have good academic records and have also spent time in community service activities. It encourages outstanding high school seniors to continue their education beyond high school. Students may plan to attend any post-secondary school, including community college, 4-year college or university, or accredited trade school.

To be eligible, the applicant must meet the following requirements:
  • Be a resident of Sonoma county
  • Be of Asian descent, OR a member of RECA (membership of parents is sufficient)
  • Be a graduating high school senior who is planning to enroll full-time next school year in a post-secondary school
The application deadline is March 31st each year. Applications can be downloaded from RECA's Web site, and they are also available from counselors at most Sonoma County high schools beginning in February.

In 2014, RECA will award at least three $500 scholarships:
  1. RECA Scholarships
One scholarship is from RECA's scholarship fund, and the second scholarship is provided by an anonymous donor. These scholarships are awarded to well-rounded students with an emphasis on excellent academic achievement.
  2. Lok Family Scholarship
This scholarship is provided by the Lok family, who own and operate several hotels in Sonoma County including the Quality Inn in Petaluma and the Fairfield Inn in Sebastopol. The scholarship is awarded with preference for a student who has been actively involved with RECA and contributed to the local Asian community, with consideration for financial need.
  3. Steve Chung Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship has been donated by David Chung in memory of his brother Steve, who passed away in 2010. It will be awarded to a student with a GPA of at least 3.0 with an emphasis on financial need.
